Sintra - Palácio da Regaleira

Second visit to Sintra - this time us and Luis, the trainee from Venezuela. There we decided to visit the Regaleira Palace, also called "Quinta da Regaleira". The palace is near to the historic downtown of Sintra, being considered by UNESCO world heritage.

It´s first owner, Carvalho Monteiro, assisted by the Italian architect, Luigi Manini, builds on the estate ("quinta") the palace, luxuriant gardens, lakes, caves and enigmatic constructions. The architecture is a mix of styles: roman, gothic, of Renaissance and manueline.

From the tower it´s visible also the Mourish Castle

We entered an undergound galery, with stairs in spiral, sustained by sculpted columns, stairs that lead to the bottom of the well.
