Belém, 50 years from the Treaty of Rome


Sunday...the celebration of 50 years from the Treaty of Rome..free entry for the public at the Palace of the Portuguese royal family, palace located in Belém (with the famous Tower of Belém and the well known "pasteis de Belém"), near to Lisbon. We didn´t miss the opportunity and we gathered few people to go to Belém - we weren´t there until then. This is the group: Ovidu, me, Mihajlo (Serbian), Luís (Portuguese), 2 Australians (actually he was from Ukraine and was also in Romania) with which we started to chat in the tram, in the way to Belém (they joined us), and Giulia (Italian)...a very diverse group :-)

So, we started with the palace...As much serious was the guard, he still made a picture with us :-)


Inside, in the palace, I could see some similarities with Peles (the Palace of the royal family in Romania), but of course also a lot of specific Portuguese elements.





Then we went to the Monument of Descoveries, on the bank of the river Tejo, which suggests the dash of the Portuguese in descovering the colonies.

We admired also the famous Tower of Belém, and the river...This place always relaxes me and puts me in a good mood: the river in front, the bridge, in the left at some distance, the tower in the right, the waves hitting the shore...
